Fear is not a very friendly thing.
Like most people, fear has kept me from doing certain things in my life.
A lot of the time, it keeps me from watching horror movies. (After I watched The Ring, I couldn’t sleep/ look in my closet/hear the phone ring without freaking out for about a week.) This I don’t mind so much, because why watch a scary movie when you can watch something adorable, like Babies?

But lately, fear has kept me from my writing. More specifically, the chick-lit novel I began writing last year that has been sitting untouched since January.
At first it was just a busy schedule that kept me away from writing (even though I really shouldn’t have let that keep me away.) But now, it is fear.
I know, right? What kind of dork is afraid of writing. Especially one who loves writing as much as I do.
But the thing is…sometimes I am scared that I will never be able to match what I wrote when I started my novel. That I’ve abandoned it for too long and that now the mindset is gone. I’m afraid that my writing just won’t be good enough anymore.
I know it is an incredibly stupid thing to worry about. Which makes it slightly easier to push past my fear.
The thing is, I’ve decided that I am going to finish this book no matter what. Because, in all truth, I can be a disgustingly perseverant person when I really care about something.
And I did receive some extra motivation the other day when I learned that the French word for novelist is romancière.
It’s so romantic sounding.
And how cool would it be to be able to say that you are a romancière?
Really freaking cool, actually.
So, I am off to dive head-first into my writing.
Wish me luck!

P.S. Pink Blog Girl Fun Fact: When I was little, I was afraid of the band KISS. I’m still not entirely sure why.

Yesterday I went to see Letters to Juliet. Because, as a total sucker for romantic comedies, there was no way I was going to miss it.
I absolutely loved this movie. It was adorably sweet, and it took place in Verona, Italy, so the scenery was amazing as well. And, in between swooning over the whole love story and being insanely jealous of Amanda Seyfried’s gorgeous hair, I noticed that Amanda’s character, Sophie, was wearing tons of cute sundresses. So, as I was watching the movie, I decided that I wanted to write a post about some of the cutest summery dresses of the season. Here are a few of my favorites:

Sweet Dotted Knit Dress

Ruffled Jersey Cabana Dress

Casual Bubble Dress w/ Belt

Shirred Knit Dress

Women’s Tie-Front Flutter-Sleeve Dress
Even if you don’t have the fortune of wearing them in Verona, these dresses are sure to sizzle wherever you are. (Though that may not stop you from really really wanting to be in Verona.)

It seems that when the weather gets brighter and sunnier so does the music. And, as a pop lover, I could not be more excited. Here are some of the songs I have been feeling Radio Love for lately…
“California Gurls”—Katy Perry

I love Katy Perry, and this song is already being deemed (by some) as this summer’s anthem. I think the cover art for this single is lots of fun, and it makes me want to soak up some Californian rays.
“Kissin U”—Miranda Cosgrove

Ahh, teen pop. There are a lot of people who think that music like this is best reserved for the 12-and-under set, but I say phooey to them. I’m going to keep finding teen pop songs I love until my hair turns white. And probably after that, too. (Also, how adorable is Miranda Cosgrove?)
“Alejandro”—Lady Gaga

Have you ever noticed how fun it is to say “Alejandro”? No, seriously, try it.
“Your Love is My Drug”—Ke$ha

This song is infectious; once it gets stuck in your head, there is no guarantee it is ever coming out. But that’s part of what makes it so great.
In other music news, I am just dying to get Glee: The Music, Volume 3 and Glee: The Music–The Power of Madonna.

Is anyone else excited for the Lady Gaga episode of Glee tonight? (Well, obviously. How could you not be?)
So tell me: what songs have you been feeling Radio Love for lately?

I’ve been receiving a surprising amount of spam comments lately. (And don’t be fooled by the deceptive photo. I’m talking about the computer kind of spam.)
Seriously, I’ve been finding at least 10 spam comments a day in my “spam catcher” box, and it’s getting a little ridiculous.
I might have to install a captcha generator to stop spammers from getting through. (Captchas are those weird things with distorted letters. You have to copy the letters from the captcha into a box below it when leaving a comment in order to ensure that you are a person and not a computer.)

I apologize for this, because I know captchas are kind of annoying to deal with. But sometimes they can actually be funny. My all-time favorite captcha (how weird is it that I have an all-time favorite captcha?) said “hoochbag windpipe.” I’m not exactly sure what a hoochbag windpipe is, but I think it could be a great new insult.
Oh, and spammers, I have news for you:
I don’t need motorcycle insurance.
Or professional quality NFL jerseys.
Or “male enhancement” drugs.
Or Justin Bieber oven mitts, or whatever other bizarre items you feel the need to advertise about on my blog.
Love always,
Pink Blog Girl
P.S. Do you think anyone leaves spam comments about the meat product SPAM? (Is it odd that I wonder about these kinds of things?)

The weather has been getting warmer lately, and it feels like summer is just around the corner.
For many of us, summer is a time to engage in activities such as waterskiing, kayaking, swimming, surfing, and beach volleyball.
Or, for the extremely uncoordinated (or just insanely cool) among us, there is reading on the beach.
If you haven’t guessed already, I fall into the second group. (And not because I am insanely cool.)
Luckily, I am well-prepared for beach reading, because I have a stack of books I have been waiting to read all year:
The Wicked series by Gregory Maguire

I’ve been wanting to read these forever. I’m also dying to see the musical.
Runaway by Meg Cabot
In case you missed it, I wrote a post about Runaway last month. Sadly, I still haven’t had a chance to read it. (But that’s why summer reading exists, right?)
Insatiable by Meg Cabot

Though I’ve pretty much sworn off anything involving vampires, I have to make an exception for Meg Cabot. This is mainly because I’m convinced that Meg Cabot can make anything, even vampires, fabulous.
Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella

I adore Sophie Kinsella, and this book about a girl who is visited by the glamorous ghost of her great-aunt sounds too cute to resist.
These are only a couple of the books I’m planning on devouring this summer. Especially since it seems like I find something new I want to read every day.
The only tricky (and when I say “tricky” I mean “frightening”) part is finding a bathing suit to wear while enjoying these beach reads. (Perhaps a related post will be coming soon…)
What’s on your “summer reads” list?

You all remember Right Said Fred, right?
You know, those guys from the 90’s that did “I’m Too Sexy,” that hilarious song that pokes fun at arrogant male models. (Best lyric: “I’m too sexy for my cat.” Ha!)
Well, I found this the other day and could not stop laughing:

Yes. That is French for “I’m too sexy for this t-shirt.”
As a wannabe francophone with a love of “guilty pleasure” music and an extremely dorky sense of humor (especially when it comes to making fun of arrogance), this shirt could not be more perfect for me. Except for if it was pink. But hey, diversity is definitely a good thing, even when it comes to colors.
So now, in honor of Right Said Fred, I think we should all try to use being “too sexy” as an excuse for something.
For example:
“Hey, can you check the time for me?”
“I’m too sexy for clocks.”
That’s right. I have just given you a foolproof line that will get you out of ANYTHING you don’t want to do!
I would let you thank me, but I’m actually too sexy for gratitude.
(See? I wasn’t lying about that dorky sense of humor.)

No matter what age you are, you can learn a lot from children’s stories. Not only are they fun and cute, but they always have great lessons and the best characters.
One children’s character I particularly adore is Eloise. (And I am telling you right now, you are NEVER too old to love Eloise.)
I was reminded of Eloise the other day when I was flipping through channels (in a fit of blissful laziness) and stumbled on the movie Eloise at the Plaza, which was based on the children’s books by Kay Thompson.

Eloise lives at the Plaza in New York City. (Can it get any more fabulous than that?) She has attitude, but in the best possible way. She knows who she is, she knows what she wants, and she is not afraid to get it, or tell everyone about it. And she’s six years old.

Eloise embodies everything most people wish to have: spunk, spontaneity, and courage. Her stories are always so fun and, in a way, inspiring.

Better yet, she has a darling sense of style:

So, I was inspired to compile these finds from Forever 21 that, to me, are reminiscent of Eloise. They are every bit as lovable and spunky as she is, and, if Eloise was a modern woman, she could totally rock them all.

Femme Bowtie Bib Tank

Ruffle Flounce Skirt
Erin Bejeweled Pump

Sequin Suspender Skirt

P.S I LOVE the name Eloise. I just think it is so sweet.
After reading a post on Meg Cabot’s blog that talked a bit about feminism, I was inspired to write about what being a feminist means to me:
I wear ridiculous amounts of pink. I swoon over handbags and high-heeled shoes. And I, admittedly, have a pretty bad addiction to romantic comedies. So, I can’t possibly be a feminist, right?
Wrong. Oh, so wrong. Here are some little-known truths about feminism:
Feminists can wear lipstick and high heels. Feminists can read romance novels. Heck, feminists can even be men.

Feminism, according to the dictionary, is, “the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.” Nowhere in that definition does it say that feminists have to be female, that feminists have to burn their bras and refuse to wear makeup, or that feminists can’t be (gasp!) feminine. Imagine that.

Girls like me who enjoy fashion, chick-flicks, and other stereotypically “girly” things are often branded as being “anti-feminist.” Which I, frankly, do not understand. What exactly is it about my love of clothing that prevents me from believing in equal rights for women?

Yes, there is the argument that dresses, heels, and makeup allow men to see women as “sexual objects.” However, I do not dress the way I do for men. Fashion is a form of self-expression and is something that makes me, a proud feminist, happy.
I could not agree more that women should in no way to be forced to wear “feminine” clothing. But, at the same time, forcing women not to wear feminine clothing is just as wrong. In all truth, denying women of dressing in a feminine manner is incredibly anti-feminist.

This is part of the reason why I love Legally Blonde, one of my favorite movies, so much. Elle Woods is both a fabulous fashionista (who wears even more pink than I do!) and a highly intelligent, totally kick-butt lawyer. Which proves even more that you do not have to choose between being a strong, powerful woman and being girly. Embracing your feminine side can be, and is for many women (myself included), empowering.

(Also, this movie has one of the greatest lines of all time: “Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.”)
Women are every bit as capable as men in every way. They always have been and they always will be. And no amount of glitter, glam, or Spanx can change that.
Oh, and FYI to all you chauvinists: getting kicked by a high heel hurts twice as much.

On the first of May, or May Day, it is customary to anonymously leave flowers on your friends’ doorsteps. It’s like ding-dong ditch, except with good intentions and a friendly surprise. (Did you know that ding-dong ditch is also called “Knock, Knock, Ginger”? How cute is that?)
Well, I personally believe that May Day gifts should not be limited to flowers themselves; anything floral should count.
Which is why I fully expect to find all of these floral lovelies (from my favorite stores!) to appear on my doorstep before the end of the day:
Old Navy:
Women’s Printed Crossbody Tote

Women’s Floral-Graphic Tube Dress

Women’s Floral-Print Gauze Tops
Payless:

Coconut Flower Flat

Kicks Hi Watercolor

Bright Floral Stretch Ring
Target:

Gardenia Bedding Collection

iDesign Flower Accent Rug Women’s Miss Trish for Target® Flower Flat Sandals
April showers really do bring May flowers. (As well as some pretty cute trends.)
Happy May Day!

I am currently on a hunt to find a good lipstick.
You see, I’ve never really been a lipstick kind of girl.
Glosses, chapsticks, balms—I’ve had them all. But never a single tube of lipstick.
Now, I feel that it’s about time that I got my hands on some lipstick, and I am trying to decide what color I should get.
I have always wanted to try an elegant red:

Anne Hathaway

Gwen Stefani
And you know I am a total sucker for a pretty hot pink:

Beyoncé

Alexis Bledel
But maybe I want to try something more subtle, like coral:

Katy Perry
In all reality, I will probably end up getting all three colors (as well as whatever other lovelies catch my eye). The truth is, I have way too much fun buying makeup. I can’t help it, because it’s so pretty and colorful!
But first, I will have to find out which shades work with my skin tone. Luckily, I have read tons of magazine articles on this subject, and—since I never get rid of my old magazines—I will be searching my library (a.k.a the plastic bin full of magazines in my closet) for them.
I am quite pale, so I figure that—if nothing else—I can try and match the lip color that Snow White uses. I’m sure it will match my skin tone perfectly.

If you have any recommendations of fabulous lipsticks you have tried, I would love to hear them. Just leave a comment!
Oh, also: I know I JUST did an entire post about music, but I have recently fallen in love with a song I must share with you:
“Animal” by Neon Trees.

Listen to it. Right now. It will never get out of your head, but, trust me, you will not even mind. It’s incredible.
